To be successful in anything – you really do need all three:
- Teachers (Mentors)
- Partners (For idea sharing and accountability)
- Students – To keep you sharp and on your toes
You would be surprised at how much you know. I’m often amazed when someone asks me a question and I will “chat on and on” with answers. They often are amazed at my knowledge of a subject, and I look at them like they are “nuts”. Why? Because I don’t ever think I know much… I never feel like a know it all… I’m always learning.
Be a teacher! Offer your wisdom whenever someone asks for specific help on something you have some “grasp” of the topic. Don’t throw out random thoughts or lead someone astray. A teacher is always helpful, and offers suggestions for other resources when we don’t know all the answers.
At times we refer to our teachers as Mentors. A Mentor is really a guide who has your best interests in mind. Once you feel your Mentor or Teacher is not serving you well… Drop Them Like A Hot Potato!
On the flip side… if you are trying to be a Teacher and the student is constantly arguing with you and not following any of your guidance… then you are the wrong Teacher for that student.
I‘ve been on both sides of this coin… sigh…
Having “students” (even those friends or other online sellers that ask random questions) really does keep you sharp – in tune – and it also let’s you know where you are lacking knowledge.
Be a partner! Get yourself an accountability partner. Trust me when I say that you will NOT get as much done without one. Being accountable keeps you on task and on target to reach your goals.
I’ve had friends (the online ones that I share lot’s of things with) and I’ve had acquaintances who don’t give a rip if i get anything done “on time”. I have two “problems” with friends and acquaintances – they aren’t helping me reach my goals. I love all of my online friends and acquaintances… don’t get me wrong.
Problem #1 – I get a “pass” from them when I don’t follow through or focus. In fact I’ve had to train my own accountability partner to never say “That’s Okay Debra” whenever I miss a date or goal. Most of us who don’t have an investment in helping someone else succeed – don’t care if the other person reaches any goal – EVER.
Problem #2 – Problem number 2 is an add-on to #1… Friends and Acquaintances are often happy (inside) that you didn’t meet your goals. They aren’t meeting theirs either and you have made them feel better about themselves.
Everybody’s just freaking happy…. right? Not really.
I can tell you right now – today – I’ve never been happier with my progress in business (and I’ve been at this for years) than I am right now – this minute! I have an accountability partner who rocks! She is on the same level of success as I am in her own business… and she is really knowledgeable about things that I am not. We help each other so much to reach goal after goal.
The beauty of it all… it’s entirely FREE. We aren’t charging each other a thing… why would we?
We have one call a week… scheduled. These calls last about 3 or 4 hours and we are both drained and invigorated after each call. During the week we never ‘talk” to each other on Skype. We email each other almost everyday with lists of goals met… questions… ideas… and of course we share immediately when something really cool has happened in our respective businesses. In fact we often email many times a day.
Be a Student – Always keep learning! I don’t mean that you should buy new products. Don’t be a shiny-object-follower.
Choose a Business Plan – and then keep learning (and asking questions) constantly. Hone your skills, seek out best practices, find the best time saving tools, be a team player (NO I in TEAM). For years I thought I could work from home alone… and grow my business without any “help” from others. I was wrong. Sooooo Soooo Wrong.
Where can you be a teacher – a partner – and a student?

Debra,
I am not trying to be a pain in the ass but do you have you have a live person check your support tickets? I signed up for your forum last week and was able to log in one time. Now when I log in it logs me in as guest only. I submitted a support ticket hoping someone would get back to me and find a fix. As of tonight no one has yet to fix my problem. The forum still logs me in as a guest. What is the problem?

J Arthur Davis- when you are logged into the forum and it says your are logged in as a guest – sign in with the user name and pswrd you registered with. After you do that it will log you into the forum. I hope this helps.
Debra- thanks for setting the forum up- I bet it took sometime- I can see the work you put into it. Great move on your part!
Having an accountability partner is by far the best thing I’ve ever done for my business. I’ve been able to move my business forward by big leaps instead of tiny footsteps. It’s been really helpful with cutting through the b.s. too. I could talk till I was blue in the face to my friends and family about my business – but they just didn’t really “get it”.
Even if you don’t have an “accountability partner”, you could post some short and long term goals over in “goal setting” section of the forum and we can all help each other stay on target

Sylvia, Nope, does not work. When I do exactly what you are telling me to do it takes me over to a WordPress login page. I put in my login and password and it reject me. I have 54 active websites, most of them are WordPress sites and I don’t have nearly this much trouble getting logged in.
