Create A Bundled Product And Include Public Domain Images – The Finish Line

This first product bundle idea using Public Domain Images is finished. I’ll be shipping these to Amazon FBA warehouse in the morning.

I do want to share with you a few things:

Once a bundle is “created” it’s easy to put it together and ship it out.  I can slap all the pieces into a box and have it ready to ship (SKU label and all) in less than 4 minutes. It takes a few minutes longer if I need to print out the “insides”.  And… I have all the purchased inventory on hand.

If I want to change the “insides” of this kit… I would wait until all the current units were sold out and then just change the product page and pictures on Amazon. I will change the title of this product after Valentine’s Day.  I’ll probably just take out the word “Valentine” and leave the rest.

I titled this product with highly searched keywords.

Unique Valentine Gift Idea for Couples S’mores Kits

I’ve taught a bit about doing keyword research here: Keyword Research

I’ve got more pictures to “upload” to Amazon for the product page. I think when you are creating a new product of your own… the more pictures the better. Amazon “requires” that all product images must be taken against a white background. You will see this violated all the time – but we all should strive to follow the “rules”.

I used a CD gift box that I purchased on clearance for the napkins and the invitation:

I’ve boxed and taped the kit here:

One last step – I “shrink wrap” everything with food (and other things like collectible games):

And – now they are all done!

And – Drum Roll Please…. ta da!  Here is the product page:

S’mores Kit

What’s Next in Amazon product bundle ideas?

I’m starting to work on the kit for next month…. remember I want to have a new kit every month.  I’m actually creating other kit’s that don’t have anything to do with Public Domain Image content on the Debra Conrad website: Create Amazon Bundles.  This means that I’m actually creating more bundles every month and sharing my ideas on both websites.

I’ll actually “teach” the entire process for creating a product page on Amazon and buying the UPC code etc over on the DebraConrad.com site in the next week or so.

Anyway… what I want to test is – How quickly I can create a bundle using the same “ideas” or “templates” as this first kit.  It will be a St. Patrick’s Day theme bundle…  which would require that I “wait” until the marshmallows are stocked (I’m sure they will have green shamrock marshmallows…. LOL).

I’ll be sharing all the “details” of my next public domain image product ideas starting in a few days. I’ve got to get back to my idea for selling my own creative images on Etsy – I have some already finished and I just need a few more to feel like I have a selection.

I know some of you are getting ready to create bundled products – let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Debra,
it’s been very interesting watching along while you do this.. I would love to get creative that way, except I live in Ireland and 1 – Amazon UK don’t allow selling on their site like the US does and 2 – living here precludes me from selling on the US site.
However, as an Irishman who lived in Arizona for a while, let me just explain that we don’t eat corned beef on Paddy’s Day – nor any other time of year! For some reason it was made a big deal of as part of the Irish traditional foods while I was living there. So in your kits, avoid corned beef and just add extra whiskey or Guinness :-)
Best of luck with those kits – they are a great idea – please keep us up to date on how you are doing.

This is a really interesting project you have here. I am looking forward to see the sales results of this product. Is it expensive to get all of this set up on the Amazon side? I am excited to see your next post on this topic as I have been outlining lots of themes ideas but am not convinced that they will sell. I am optimistic though.

Debra,
How do you shrink wrap with that plastic wrap? Can you give a description of how it is done? Also, what are you suggesting that the heart stickers be applied to?
Great job, thanks for showing us how you developed this idea!

Oh, yes, how did you come up with the idea for snuggling and s’mores? I don’t remember if you told us that.

Apparently my first message did not go through as it is not showing. I told you that I really love your product and thanked you for sharing them with us. I hope that you sell all of them quickly.

Hey Michael… I’m looking forward to the sales results as well… LOL! ;)

I’m not sure what you mean by expensive to set up on the Amazon side… it doesn’t cost anything to start selling on Amazon. The cost’s are shipping to Amazon (really cheap) if you use the FBA program and the fees that Amazon takes when something sells. All of that should be built into the price you charge your customers.

You don’t have to sign up to be a PRO merchant – which is a monthly fee – to get started.

Of course – nothing is ever guaranteed. You can’t know if something will sell unless you try. And the cost to “test” is actually very low. Send in 1 of something and test it out!

Let me know if you have any questions…

GMa – I had the idea for the s’mores kit but was going to call it “S’mores for Lovers” – I ran it by a friend of mine who is very creative and she came up with the idea for “Snuggle”. Do you think she will want a royalty check? LOL

Debra January 24, 2012 at 10:40 am

Thanks Peter – I’m glad the whole process is a bit clearer now.

Hi Louise… I will show how to shrink wrap in a demo video in a few days. It’s really very easy… and this is the “poor man’s” version of shrink wrap. No expensive equipment needed for professional results.

Dave… More Whiskey – I’ll bet that would sell fast! What do you “eat” on Paddy’s Day?

If you can’t sell something like this on Amazon – I know you can sell things on eBay. What kind of creative things can you do to sell on eBay? hmmmmm

Ruth Harding January 24, 2012 at 11:30 am

Debra,
I am not clear on how the selling side works. When someone orders on Amazon, do you get notified and then ship direct to the customer? Or do you ship individual sales to Amazon for them to forward to the customer?
thanks!

Debra January 24, 2012 at 11:44 am

Hi Ruth….

You can sell on Amazon two ways… One is to self fulfill (much like eBay) or you can use FBA which is what I do.

FBA – Fulfilled by Amazon

I box up all my products and ship them to Amazon. Then when a customer purchases (or has questions) Amazon takes care of all the customer service, shipping and returns. Once I send products to Amazon – I let them handle all the rest. I love it!

Ruth Harding January 24, 2012 at 5:36 pm

Thanks for the explanation. I am so close to the border that I could easily ship to Amazon from Blaine and save on outrageous Canadian postal costs. I will investigate this idea further.

Thanks so much.

Very cool, Debra. I looked at the description on
Amazon. Just an FYI, graham is misspelled. Sorry, that’s the teacher in me!
I am now thinking of military patriotic things I can bundle. Thanks for all you do.

I really like the way you did this bundle idea. I have been following you through the whole process and the results are absolutely amazing, I want one now. LOL

Its really cute and I can tell you are going to have tons of sales because people like things that are unique and original.

I am interested in learning more about the Amazon FBA program too, it seems to be a better option to eBay.

Hi Sunny

Well – I am keeping my fingers crossed for sales! ;)

I love Amazon FBA! It’s soooo much easier for me than eBay… which I’m going to need to start selling some “stuff” on and not looking forward to the process.

Dave January 26, 2012 at 9:08 am

Hey Debra! Thanks for that.. feels less ‘anonymous’ now!
Well, if I am honest – no-one cares much what they eat on the day. People tend to just go to the supermarket and stock up on lots of booze. But it has been said in an old expression that there is ‘both eating and drinking in Guinness’ :-)

Hi Debra- Congratulations !you must be so excited about the sales on Amazon. One question I have and have been wondering – do you pay to be involved in the FBA? program- there are 2 types of accounts I think – one is $40 a month and the other is just sell items – that are already listed. : )

Hi Debra

I have begun following you and you really provide quality information. A couple of questions becuase maybe I missed something along the way. WHile I can understand if you don’t want to reveal the actual figures for this product, is there a general guideline of how much to spend versus how much profit there is on a product like this. Also, the listing says it is sold by Home Style Bargains-is that one of your companies as well? Thanks again for all you do

Carol Clifford February 11, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Congratz and well done Debra – wishing you all the best with the next one – maybe you could use green lolly snakes in your box or a shamrock DIY kit ……..

Best wishes,

Hi Debra,

A couple of ideas for your Irish themed box, how about;
Tayto Cheese and Onion potato crisps
Potato Bread or Potato Farls(probably wouldn’t have a long enough shelf life)
Postcards from Ireland
Irish food recipies (Irish fry, stew, potato bread, champ, colcannon, etc)
Irish Music CD
Book of Images from Ireland
St. Patrick ‘stuff’

It never ceases to amaze me how the St Paddys day celebrations are worldwide and yet are almost non-existent here in Ireland. I live within 10 miles of ‘Slemish’ where St Patrick spent his earlier days in Ireland and until recently there would have been no St Paddys day celebrations, at least in a cross community way, this is of course one of the many subjects in this little country that people argue about :-( But in recent years things are improving :-)

Hi Dave,

You said “I live in Ireland and 1 – Amazon UK don’t allow selling on their site like the US does and 2 – living here precludes me from selling on the US site.”

I also live in Ireland (North) and I can sell pretty much what I want on Amazon, just as the US amazon, perhaps if you are in the South there is a difference.

I’m not an expert on Amazon but if you sell your stuff with the International option checked your products will show up in the International sites searches, I just sold a book about the Film industry in Australia to an Australian buyer. I always thought that this would be great for selling genuine Irish souvenirs into the American market.

Hi Sylvia – The link to the Valentine product is: Debra’s Valentine Product

Amazon has two ways to pay for selling – one is a monthly fee of about $40 and the other charges and extra fee of $1 per item sold. If you sell more than 40 items per month then it works out cheaper to pay the subscription fee. Also – if you want to create products of your own to sell on Amazon (like this Valentine product) then you must be on the subscription plan.

I joined the subscription plan right away – it “Made” me get into selling stuff much faster because I knew I was paying that fee once a month. *giggle*

Debra February 13, 2012 at 10:33 am

Hi Sara…

Yes – Home Style Bargains is my Amazon store name. Sort of like an eBay ID.

I don’t mind revealing figures at all… I paid about $13 for all the items that went into this product. After all the fees that Amazon charges and the cost of shipping the product to the Amazon warehouse – I came out with about $19 profit on each one. This worked out to be aprox $100 profit total for all 5 products I created and sent in.

The way we should look at products that sell on Amazon is this. We want to at least double our money – Right? Amazon has fees that they take out. If you sell on Amazon the simple answer is to triple the cost of the product. So… if a product cost’s $10 – it should sell on Amazon for about $30. That is not a hard rule – just something to start with.

Debra February 13, 2012 at 10:35 am

Hey Carol… Thank You! I am pleased that my first try worked out and sold all 5. I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time with the Irish and/or St. Patty’s idea. It’s like pushing peanut butter through a straw with this idea. *giggle*

Debra February 13, 2012 at 10:41 am

Jim – I know that selling on Amazon (from U.S.) internationally is restricted to media. I think they will open it up to more products in the future… but that’s the way it stands right now.

Amazon does have warehouses in other countries for sellers to use. (I can’t remember which ones). This allows sellers in those countries to offer many products that we U.S. sellers can’t. I’m sure this would open up a ton of opportunities.

Debra February 13, 2012 at 10:48 am

Jim – Thank you for all the ideas! As I’m not Irish (well a tiny bit of Irish on my Dad’s side :) ) I’ve actually got a nice image of Ireland (public domain) and the thought’s are becoming clear. I better get very clear and “get it done”.

I’ll be writing about this Irish product soon!
