Today – was my dig in and finish this first product idea… and then I hit a snag. It happens… I had to take a “few” and ‘get over myself’.
The idea I had for the “Window Cling” bombed out. I actually tried out a sample on a window (and a mirror) and it just looked “silly”.
Rather than spend hours creating something “new” for my window cling idea… I just used the same graphic and “repurposed” it.
I’ve also “changed” a few other little things which I’ll just explain to you as I go along here.
First on my to-do list today – obviously fix my “Window Cling” issue.
Instead of a window “cling” – I used the same graphic and just printed it on parchment style paper – cut it out and I explain that the customer can stick this “invitation” anywhere by using the included sticker.
Speaking of stickers… I found a pack of 24 red heart stickers at Walmart for $1. Nice…
Remember, this was the original cigar box image:

This is what I created with this public domain image:

Note: I did NOT make this “invitation” specific – I can use it in a number of products.
Second on my to-do list: go back and edit all the related material (that I’d already created). I needed to change all references to “window cling”.
Then – It was on to printing enough qty of each “part” to create 5 kits.

Third in today’s to-do: Take pictures.
I took a picture of a “finished” S’more to show how Yummy they are. The problem is – I’m going to be on a sugar high the rest of the day. I just “HAD” to taste test… the entire thing! LOL Delish!
This image will be used on the Amazon product page along with several others. In fact – I took 2 different images – this first one looks more “pink marshmallow” and the second one looks more “toasty marshmallow”… I can’t decide which one I like better. (I had to taste test both of them… I’m an “over the top” girl).

Now – It’s time to put the whole thing together. Next… I’ll take pictures of the finished product for my Amazon product page and show you the actual product page I created on Amazon as well. I’ve got to get these done and shipped out soon! I’m crazy – excited to see if they will actually sell.
Funny Side Note: I’ve been waiting for Walmart to “get in” the heart shaped marshmallows – which they finally did (After I already stocked up on the regular Strawberry Flavor). I’ll be including the heart shaped marshmallows in this first “batch” of kit’s.

I hope you are enjoying this series – I’ve heard that some of you are waiting in anticipation for the next “installment” LOL.

Hi Debra,
Just a quick question. Are you planning to put the whole packages of marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate from the original packages? I worked in the food industry and don’t believe you can repackage food items. They would have to be packed at the original manufacturer. If you can repackage these items most likely you would need a commercial kitchen that has a current license to operate. Just curious. Thanks for sharing this venture you are working on. I have found it very interesting and has my thought process spinning!
Louise
This is a fun series! I love watching how you’re putting this together.
I’m not sure if the instruction sheet shown above is your final version – just in case, I thought I’d mention there are several typos in it: “grahm” instead of “graham”, “empossed” for “embossed” and “Sunggle” instead of “Snuggle”.
Thanks Isobel – I’m always looking for proofreading and ya know I can’t spell worth anything. LOL
Louise… yep – I plan to keep everything in original packaging. I know that “opened” food would be a real turn off as well as not passing Amazon muster.
Debra,
Great job so far. Like the “meet you card” and the box cover. You are far more creative than me or my wife are. As to the two pictures of the S’more in the blog, I think the second one works better because the “Love” is showing. It just needs Photo Shopped to balance the color especially the graham cracker. Also, thanks for being so up front and honest about all the work you have put in on this project. Not sure there are many gurus out there with your level of honesty. Looking forward to your conclusion of this project. I am working anyway with my project. I am going to use food and PD material of a historical nature. Will PM you with my idea. Thank you, thank you for all your efforts. You are #1 in my book.
Hi Debra, thank you so much for this step by step approach to building a product you are amazing. Amazing not only with brainstorming ideas with us, but also willing to share the real product from start to finish.
Thank You
Debra – way to go! Go label design and good wording on the label. And I have a suggestion … I think you should have more of the chocolate showing in the picture.
Thanks for all the ideas you bring to us Debra. You are appreciated much!
Rick… I agree and have another picture to add to the product page with a bit more chocolate showing.
I’ll be sharing “everything” on this new product page next.
I hope you are getting your creative “thinking cap” on and “go for it” !!!
Andrew – I’m a sharing kind of gal…
Ken… can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve. I’m happy that I’ve helped you get your creative juices going. Yep… I’m so tired of the “guru” types who don’t share the stuff that goes wrong. Geeeesh…. we all learn from everyone’s mistakes!
Keep in touch,
Ooooh Isobel! Didn’t you read Debra’s renunciation of all care about grammar and spelling at the start of her Public Domain ebook?? LOL
Dave´s last [type] ..Be a Social Monkee!
Hi Debra,
I just thought of another addition to your box could be some Hershey kisses! Plus, you could “litter” the box with rose petals! I think Oriental trading has them.
Louise
Louise… all great ideas! You will be surprised at how “packed” my kit box is already. Couldn’t fit another thing in it… even the pretty pink bubble wrap that I was so excited to use won’t fit. LOL
I’m a huge fan of Oriental Trading and will be talking about them in an upcoming blog article.
Again – thanks for the great ideas… don’t stop sharing. I’m all ears when it comes to sharing ideas.
Debra
Dave… LOL – I should include a copy of that spelling and grammar disclaimer in my kits! Great Idea!!!! Thanks
