The Worst Public Domain Content Site Ever Still Gets Google Love

Creole Decorating

This is the Worst Public Domain Content Site – Ever… and it’s mine!  :0)

I put this site up on April 30th (using the Blog In A Day system) … and it has exactly 8 blog posts.  7 of the blog posts are Public Domain content.

This blog ranks number 5 on Google for Creole Decorating.

Creole Decorating

This site has had visitors over the last 2 months:

What profit have I made from this site? “Zip”.

I have it badly monetized with Google Adsense and I have one affiliate product for a Creole translation guide.

Here is the cold hard truth…

Until today – I had forgotten to go back and “fix” this site.

I usually have a plan in place -

  1. Get the website set up this far – (the ugly stage) and wait to see what Google does with it in the rankings.
  2. If Google is going to show me the love – then I go back and fill with related products. Make the site inviting and work on driving traffic to the site.

I missed step 2.

Things happen to all of us… the plan is to get back to work on this site.  The 96 Visitors to this site so far were looking for something… I missed the opportunity to help them find it.

Anyway – How great is it that an ugly site like this – filled with targeted Public Domain content – gets ranked number 5 for the keyword phrase “Creole Decorating”.

You might think – geeesh Debra – who cares about “Creole Decorating”?

Are you kidding me?  Do you know how much I make with decorating themed websites?  Well I’m not going to tell you – let’s just say Decorating IS my business.

Hi there…

Picking up interest in public domain content, and wish to know when we use it for content at any website or blog we may have, do we have to rewrite the content for maximizing seo or is there no need to do this if so why ?

The rule of thumb is never add content to a site that has not been rewritten or suffer a penalty from google and no seo benefits at all…

I am wondering or it is almost suggested on your blog unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying, that it is ok create a website and just start adding content to a site without rewriting it and experience good results in seo from just adding content as is…!

The theory of using content that is only original content on a blog is a good idea… but not always possible in my opinion.

Google does not penalize blogs for using content published elsewhere… they may not give high rankings for that content – but they don’t go out an push a button “delisting” your site.

If that were true… I wouldn’t have one site that ever got traffic. (And I have about 100 blogs that “all” get traffic).

I do rewrite “most” of the public domain content I publish (not all) just because I like to put my own spin on content or use it to direct people to purchase something through an affiliate link.

I also use straight copy/paste public domain content on sites that I only make money through Google adsense. This works for me as well.

So… Edwin, the answer to your question “Do We HAVE to Rewrite The Content for Maximizing SEO” is yes – and – no.

If I were targeting a specific long tail keyword – I would rewrite accordingly.

But!!! I have used Public Domain content “as is” and then my stats show me some very interesting SEO strategies I can use because I can see new (never thought about) long tail keywords that others have used to find my sites.
