The public domain books available via Project Gutenberg are only such high quality because of the hard working volunteers that manually proofread the scans for OCR errors. You can join the distributed proofreading team at pgdp.net

Of course you don’t have to, according to the terms of Gutenberg’s license. But it’s pretty skeevy to take the content that volunteers work to preserve and make available for free and then resell it to people who don’t know any better without giving anything back to the project you’re harvesting your product from. (IMO
