And that's exactly why I always suggest that you add in "your own" content into anything you sell online. Shame on anyone who is publishing regurgitated free content willy-nilly. :)

It might be probably possible according to the Gutenberg legal disclaimer (I don't know, I didn't go thru), however it does not means that selling that work will not be indecent or immoral. There is a lot of people working in make that books available for free and you take that work and sale them for your own benefit.
Shame on you!

I already addressed this in the bottom paragraphs of the article...

"Another thing that I would like to mention is that if you are feeling
guilty about "borrowing" Public Domain texts from Project Gutenberg, then
feel free to make a donation!

They will gladly accept monetary donations in any amount. Project Gutenberg
depends on the time and efforts of devoted volunteers and donations from
loyal users like us to survive.

By giving a little back to a Public Domain resource site every time you
take, you'll be helping to ensure that these sites will continue to thrive
and continue to provide us with even more great Public Domain works down the
road.

Make your mother proud, give a little back (in most cases, this may be
considered a tax deduction as well!)."

I hope that the people repackaging and selling Gutenberg's files for personal gain will contribute to the project.

The public domain books available via Project Gutenberg are only such high quality because of the hard working volunteers that manually proofread the scans for OCR errors. You can join the distributed proofreading team at pgdp.net

Of course you don't have to, according to the terms of Gutenberg's license. But it's pretty skeevy to take the content that volunteers work to preserve and make available for free and then resell it to people who don't know any better without giving anything back to the project you're harvesting your product from. (IMO :)

Hi Sonya,

Tell me about your computer ~ what operating system is it running? All you really need is a good text editor.

Hi there,
I understand that I need to remove the PROJECT GUTENBERG-tm and small print, but I dont know how to actually do that once I have downlaoded the book. Is there a particular program I need to make the changes on the text?
I really hope you can help me with this as I'm very keen to get started creating an ebook store.
ManyThanks,
Sonya

Logan, your articles on the ins and outs of Project Gutenberg cleared up all the questions I had. I had planned on deleting all the stuff on Gutenberg at the front and back of the books, but I got to reading their legal stuff and was not sure. Thanks, Larry
