Tons of Professionally Recorded, Royalty-FREE Music Tracks For Use In Your Multi-Media Projects

Here’s another fantastic source of quality music for use in your projects…

This large collection of professionally produced music tracks is NOT in the Public Domain but being released under a Creative Commons license, that makes it the next best thing.

There’s hundreds of tracks here in many different genres to choose from so you’re sure to find something that’ll meet your needs.

http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/

You’re free to use any of these tracks in your projects with one simple provision – provide credit, that’s it!

Here’s a few choice bits from the FAQ section of the site…

Is this music free to use? Yes. An optional donation of $5 per piece used is suggested – and highly appreciated. You do NOT need a PayPal account to make a donation! Just a credit card.

How do I place a credit for this music in my project?
If your project has only one piece in it; you can credit it as “Music: Kevin MacLeod”. If your project has many pieces from different people, you can credit me as “(name of the pieces of music you are using) Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)”. If you’d like to include the full license for legal reasons, you can do the following: “Title Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons “Attribution 3.0″ http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/” It is important that you replace the word Title with the Actual Title of the piece that you are using!

Do I have to put the credit where people can see it? Yes. Credits change from media to media – but in general a credit needs to be placed such that a person who wants to know where the music came from should have no difficulty in finding it. A resonable effort may be expended (e.g. clicking on a credits option) but the credit should not be obscured.

Is this music in the Public Domain? No. Though some of the baroque and classical compositions are in the public domain; these recordings are not.

Can I use this music in a Student Film? Commercial Film? Stage Production? Flash Animation? Instructional DVD? Relaxation CD? Slideshow? Yes. Anything and everything – as long as I get a credit. The only thing you cannot do is sublicense or relicense. (That means you cannot sell or redistribute these as a royalty-free collection.)

Can I make an audio CD of music from this site – mass produce it and sell it? Yes. Just make sure I’m credited.

For your convenience, every track can be previewed before downloading…

Thanks Mrs. Lisa! Let us know if there’s any particular kind of Public Domain material you’re interested in and we’ll do our best to dig it up.

Nice info, even decent music. How do we know that these creative commons or free music sites actually know what they’re doing. I mean can we be sure we will not find ourselves sued by an angry composer? Thanks.

Looks like you already have the answer to this question but let’s answer it anyway for the benefit of others ;)

You protect yourself by making sure you read and understand the fine print before you actually use anything, you abide by any and all rules set forth as far as attribution and anything else required, and you document EVERYTHING as you use the tracks in your projects (including source, license terms, etc.) so that you have the relevant information at your finger tips should anyone ever question your use of the material.

With that said, Kevin MacLeod has been doing this for a long time ~ he knows what he’s doing. Since he is the original composer and has the full right to dictate how and where his music is used, you’ll never have an issue and long as you provide proper attribution as he requests.
