How One Marketing Email Sucked My Time

· No Comments · Make Money With Blogs

I’m usually pretty focused. I have to be. I have so many blogs and products that need attention – I can’t afford the time to get sucked in by every marketing email.

You know the drill.. “Make a Million with this One Easy Trick” type emails. I’m on so many marketing lists… I don’t have time to unsubscribe to them all… so they usually go into the Trash Folder. Oh- I do put a few in my read later folder… in case I ever have some down time (which rarely happens).

So… How did one marketing email suck my time?

I usually read every email form James J Jones (the guy who put together the Micro Niche Finder Tool).

He is one of those guru types that isn’t really a guru. He is really a down to earth, under the radar and makes loads of money kind of guy (guru). That’s my kind of guru!

Anyway… I got this email from him yesterday (he has a series of them going out right now) that showcased one of the videos that were submitted for a recent contest he held. The contest is over – but the end result is that he has several video’s that were submitted to him showing how someone uses his Micro Niche Finder Tool in their business.

I took10 minutes and watched. Big mistake. (Not really – if you want to see the Power Of This Tool). Here is the video:

Actually… I watched the video and closed out the email. Interesting video… but I didn’t want to start working on anything New! I know it will suck up my time.

But- always with that big “But”… The ideas in the video stuck in my head.

Side Note - I try to never buy anything the first time I read about it in an email or on a sales letter. I confess… this doesn’t always work for me. Sometimes Sales Letters are really good… and the product they offer seems to be something that will solve a problem.

I do have some old websites that go after a tightly targeted niche market (they are eBay affiliate sites). And I got bored with them within a few days… So they never really made me any money. I’ve let them all slide off the radar. This is the kind of website the video shows… and I suppose that’s why it didn’t really interest me at first.

The time-suck started when my brain had a bit of free space… and I started thinking about my husband.

I’ve been trying to get him to start his own group of websites in niches that interest him. I’ve just about given up on this dream. But not quite.

Last night – I thought about the domains I’ve purchased for him, and the ideas I’ve given him.

They are all just ideas at this point. But…

  • What IF – I could start setting up all those websites for him?
  • What IF - I could get him off on the right foot and then maybe he could take over when he saw them all in “real life”.
  • What IF – These websites could start to generate some real cash… cash he could see? Would this motivate him?

You know I hate to give anyone the EASY button… but he is my husband after all. :)

The idea I have for my husband - Several websites and products about his passions. Of course these are all “man style” hobbies… like: Hunting, Fishing, Anything to do with Sand Dunes etc. All of them interlinked and interconnected in some way.

The video (above) got me thinking about setting up some “easy” and “quick” sites – using the ideas I have for him. Just to see if they would “fly”.

So…. Then I got to thinking about Fishing and Worms of all things. (Worms is NOT a profitable niche – or so I thought). Just look on eBay and see that Worms are for sale… but I wasn’t going to make any money affiliating with eBay sellers that sell Worms. LOL

And then I started to remember some conversations he and his father had several years ago about worms and growing worms (worm farms) etc. (My Father-In-Law has all kinds of crazy ideas… and we just have fun helping him find the information he wants).

I fired up my MicroNicheFinder Tool… and started hunting for good ideas and keyword phrases related to “Worms”. I spent about 20 minutes finding some very interesting phrases (you wouldn’t believe what people type into their search bar). I put them all into a “bucket” – which is like a separate file in the “tool” to keep everything handy.

Once this bucket has about 30 or 40 key word phrases… you open this bucket and see if all of them “together” look like a good target market. The software really helped me find an niche that isn’t being targeted by anyone… and it is related in a way to “Worms”.

Then I went on the hunt for a domain name that used one of those tightly targeted keyword phrases. Funny… this took longer than normal. I did find a great one… but I had to be creative in my thinking.

The products that can be sold from this website have a much larger price tag then “Worms”. But… still related.

I have spent about 2 hours on this project so far. A bit more time than usual – because finding a domain name was a bit of a struggle. And… of course… I knew it was sucking up my time!

Because – I really don’t want to make this an eBay affiliate site – I didn’t purchase the phpbay plugin.  I usually do well with this type of site using:

  • Clickbank
  • Amazon
  • Adsense
  • Commission Junction – and other affiliate partner sites.

But how was I going to fill this website with

relevant content – quick and easy?

I could just go out and purchase a bunch of PLR (Private Label Rights) articles or grab a slew of articles of ezinearticles.com.

You already know the answer to this question... or you should. I’m going to find some great Copyright – Free Public Domain content to use for my (hubbies) new “worm” site.

I will use Public Domain magazines for just this purpose. Yes… I often to purchase PLR articles… but then I punch them up by re-writing them using Copyright Free articles. It’s fast and doesn’t take a lot of effort on my part. I might even just hand it off to one of my VA’s (Virtual Assistants)…
