Viral Marketing Using Public Domain Magazine Content

Viral MarketingViral marketing is an electronic way of distributing information and can be thought of as an electronic version of word-of-mouth.

Asking friends, family members, co-workers, and acquaintances to pass along information about your business to people they know is how viral marketing is used. It works!

A simple way to develop content about your business to be distributed through viral marketing is by using articles from public domain magazines.

These magazines are either no longer protected by copyright laws or the copyright expired without the owner ever renewing it. The content or articles within the magazine is available for public use with no fear of copyright infringement.

Using public domain magazine articles for viral marketing is easy.

  • Find topics in the magazine articles that relate to your business.
  • Use the article in its original form, or modify it according to your needs.
  • Base your article around one or two key points, and refrain from using unfamiliar terminology.

This will keep the average reader interested and not intimidated. Proving you’re knowledgeable about your topic while using layman’s terms will persuade your readers to come to your business for information on your selected topic.

Be sure to include your name and business contact information and link in the byline.

When you have the article complete, there are a few things you can do with it for viral marketing.

Start An Email Campaign

Start an email campaign by emailing your article to people you know and ask them to forward it to people they know, and so on. The more people who find your key points in the article relevant, the more advertising they’ll do for you by forwarding it on to others.

Ask Other Bloggers To Forward A Link

Use the readers of your Web site or blog to help spread the word about your business. Post your article and ask readers that as they find the article helpful, to forward the link to their readers or to post your article and link on their site. Exchanging links with your readers or other sites/blogs will increase the number of people who will read your article and know of your business.

Ask Readers To Share The Article

You can put an offer at the bottom of the article that shows that anyone is free to use the article as long as your byline stays intact. The blogging community is hungry for new things to share… and they will be more receptive to sharing if you do the same for them.

Sharing the news about your business by word-of-mouth will increase your number of customers, but viral marketing, or using the electronic version of word-of-mouth, will get you more customers faster. Use public domain magazine articles to avoid wasting time writing your own articles, and don’t shy away from asking others to promote your article.
