Public Domain Content Three Most Asked Questions

December 17th, 2008 · No Comments · It's Your Business

The use of public domain content by internet marketers has started to increase in the last few years. With the use of the internet to market and sell items, there is a growing need for content to drive traffic to web sites, create products and use for article marketing.

Many marketers have yet to find this wonderful new resource of published material. Those that have found public domain content that they want to use… still tend to have many questions about how to use it.

You might be concerned about using public domain content to drive traffic and make money. This concern can usually be broken down into three specific questions.

Is Public Domain Content Legal To Use?

The first question that seems to arise when people are thinking about using anything from the public domain is whether it is legal to use.

We have been schooled that reusing the work of others is plagiarism. It is for this reason that many people are concerned about using public domain magazines or books.

Remember – Public domain material is content that has no copyright claimed on it. Because there is no copyright claimed on the material, you are free to use it for whatever purpose that you may need. There is no need to pay any copyright penalties when content has fallen into the public domain.

What Type Of Content Is Available?

This leads to the second question… What type of copyright free content is available in the public domain?

There are:

  • great literary works,
  • magazines,
  • newspapers
  • artwork,
  • photographs,
  • and even movies

All available in the public domain for use. Any creative piece that has no copyright claimed on it or has had its copyright expire is part of the public domain.

Many people do not realize that some of the great magazine articles that they find in their local library are actually part of the public domain. The amount of content available in the public domain is endless.

Where Do I Find Public Domain Material?

The key to using public domain content is knowing where to find it. This leads to the third question about using public domain content.

You can search on the internet for copyright-free material and be able to find a huge mother load of content available.

There is also the untapped public domain content that is still collecting dust on the shelves. You can find used books for sale on Ebay and at estate sales. Many libraries sell their older magazines and books once a year to make room for newer material. For a couple dollars, it’s easy to fill up your car with many years worth of material that you can easily re-purpose for your own websites.

The use of public domain content is becoming the norm in today’s businesses. It is a never-ending supply of content that you can use to drive traffic to your business’s web site – create special reports – use for article marketing – or newsletter and email content.

Knowing the answers to these three questions will start anyone on their way to using public domain content to increase their productivity.
